ADHD Diet for Children
Doctors still have to find out the real cause of Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) among children. But what they have discovered is that the diet of the children has an effect on their behavior. Having a diet regimen that leaves out sugary, processed and dairy food prove to be effective in reducing the symptoms found in chlidren.
Have you noticed that when your child ate chocolates, they tend to be more active and hyper? They move more and they are more fidgety. Sugar has an effect in our behavior and so parents with ADHD are advised not to give their children sweets. This means no chocolates, no sugary cereals, no candies, no fruit juices and no nutrasweet. Yes, artificial sweeteners also make kids show ADHD symptoms. Removing all sugar intake in ADHD children reduces their hyperactivity considerably.

Children with ADHD will benefit from a diet based on organic foods. Foods that are highly process and that contain artificial sweeteners, colorings and flavors should be taken out of ADHD diet. It is easy to find organic foods. If you look at the packaging and read ingredients that sound different or difficult to pronounce, then don’t give that to your child. Instead, have your child eat more organic grains such as rice, oatmeal and fresh vegetables and fruits.
You should also reduce or completely leave out the intake of dairy products such as eggs, milk and cheese. A good source of protein for ADHD children which is said to be better than Ritalin is coffee with protein powder. The caffeine in the coffee acts like the active ingredients of Ritalin. Many parents with ADHD children report a significant improvement in their children after learning about this.
You don’t always need to resort to prescribed medicines whenever there is something wrong with your child. What you can do first is have your child follow a set of ADHD diet. There are tens of thousands of recipes that you can cook and there are cook books that are already in the market that give recipes specifically for children with ADHD. By following a diet with no sugar, no inorganic ingredients and no protein can help in reducing the symptoms of ADHD in your child.
