Children’s Toys
I don’t want to buy my three-year old son Nicky a lot of toys because he easily gets bored with them. Once we bought him a cowboy stuff toy which is an imitation of the cartoon character from Toy Story. At first, Nicky was delighted with the toy and for a few hours did not put the toy out of his hand even while eating or going to the wash room.
At the end of the day, I noticed that the cowboy was not with him anymore. When I asked him where it was, he didn’t reply. He just kept silent. I found the cowboy stuff toy with no eyes and one hand almost separated from the shoulder. I found it under Nicky’s bed.

I wanted Nicky to play with toys because toys stimulate children’s imagination. But when I see his toys like this cowboy stuff toy, I wonder what kind of toys will be perfect for him. I told Nicky that I and Daddy will not buy him more toys because he’s just destroying them after a few hours.
We found out that Nicky didn’t really need any toy to play. One night, I saw him playing make believe firefighter. He saw a firefighter at work in one of the educational videos we watched that day. I joined him with his make believe game and pretended that I was also a firefighter. We were pretending to save a little child trapped inside the house. The little child was a pillow.
I think having educational toys such as lego or electronic toys will be useless if we didn’t teach our children how to use them in such a way that their imagination is enhanced. For me, it really doesn’t matter if the toy your child is playing with looks nice and expensive. What is important is that your child’s creativity is stimulated with the toys.
The toys that your children can play with can be everyday items you can find at home. As long as they are safe and as long as you give them opportunities to solve problems and make use of their imagination, then it’s a good toy for your child. Always supervise your child and play with them if they can’t think of anything else to do.
